WHAT: Participate in two Public Meetings held by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to collect public in-put prior to their Environmental Impact Statement on the production and use of experimental mixed oxide (MOX) plutonium fuel. The fuel would be made at the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site, near Augusta, up river from Savannah, transported regionally and used in 4 nuclear power reactors operated by Duke Power in the Charlotte area (Catawba 1 & 2 and McGuire 1 &2).

WHEN: 6:30 pm, at meeting site – representatives will be available for interview and press materials from groups will be available. NRC Public Scoping meetings start at 7:00 pm
WHY: Handling plutonium and nuclear power are both inherently risky. Weapons-grade plutonium has never been used as a commercial reactor fuel, which compounds the risks. We are committed to working for health, safety and environmental protection.
