Remembering Local Lives Lost In 2016
Michael Mariotte was honored on December 22nd’s edition of the Kojo Nnamdi show on NPR entitled “Remembering Local Lives Lost In 2016. ”
Michael was remembered for his time as the lead drummer in the band Tru Fax and the Insaniacs, his role as the founding managing editor of the Washington City Paper, and his national and global work as an anti-nuclear activist, leading the historic Mobile Chernobyl campaign, among many others.
Michael’s legacy continues to live on in NIRS’s work, and in the lives he touched locally and abroad.
In 2014, sixteen environmental groups and celebrities celebrated Michael with a lifetime achievement award at a ceremony hosted by public interest advocate Ralph Nader. Footage of the ceremony is below:
