You are invited to NIRS’s next national telebriefing,New Nuclear Dumps-Voices from Texas and New Mexico, on Wednesday, March 7th at 8:00pm – 9:30pm Eastern (7pm Central / 6pm Mountain / 5pm Pacific).
The telebriefing is free, but registration is required. Our event this quarter is centered on current action by the nuclear industry in concert with members of Congress to change national policies on highly radioactive nuclear waste.
The industry’s goal is to get rid of their most concentrated and deadly waste before there is a permanent storage solution for it by sending it to communities in Texas and New Mexico. It is called “Centralized Interim Storage,” but since there is no insurance that if moved, the waste will move again, we call this a “Parking Lot Dump” plan.
We will hear from:
- Rose Gardner who lives in a proposed parking lot dump community.
-
Leona Morgan who is organizing with activists in New Mexico to stop the parking lot dumps.
-
Dr. Marvin Resnikoff, a leading expert on the shipment of nuclear waste.
-
Diane D’Arrigo, the Radioactive Waste Project Director for NIRS will moderate.
